Suisun, Dec. 26/99 Dear Mrs. Muir, As the dear old Saints and our Saviours birthday has passed, I wish to thank you sincerely and heartily for your kind remembrance. Books are something I always appreciate and I am getting quite proud of my little library composed of my dear mother’s books, some of papa’s gifts, and yours. Tennyson is one of my favorite authors and poets. We are taking up Shakespeare every evening now. [ ] he we means my father, stepmother, and myself. Papa understands him thoroughly and explains very clearly. We are a happy family, as Papa married a very sweet lovely woman. Grandma wishes to thank you very kindly for your remembrance. She is very well and has improved wonderfully. She has a splendid appetite, and gets around quite spryly, a [great] deal better than she has for some time. I hope you are feeling better, and will continue to grow better. I enclose in this letter two little doilies, they are my first attempt at embroidery, and I wished you to have them. I am beginning to do a good deal of writing lately, and shall continue doing so. Please thank Wanda for me in lieu of her nice present. Wishing you a Happy New Year. I remain, Respectfully, Jeannette W. Donner P.S. Please tell Wanda I shall write immediately to her. J.D.
