Martinez, Oct. 21, 1909Dear Colby:I had a grand time with the President and Secretary of Interior and their parties. All seems coming our way, and the silly thieves and robbers seem at the end or their scheme.I should have been down to tell you the news, had I not caught a severe bronchial cold in a dusty garret toward the end of the trip. The miserable thing will keep me at home a week or two, and should it develop into a good sound grippe, may at least have the advantage of keeping me from Washington the coming winter. Then you and Mr.Parsons will have to go and get all the glory. Here is an important letter from the author and newspaper man, Mr. H. T. Finck, Evening Post editorial rooms Hew York. He is writing an article for Scribners and wants a few of oar best H.H. photos for reproduction. See that he gets them. He is hardly less influential than R.U.J.Faithfully,John Muir.I'm getting better. Can now make a sound like Scotch, and if not afraid of Grippe all of you come up next Sunday. I'll be glad to see you. With thanks to Mrs. Colby and yourself for your invitation.04611
