[ca. Sep 1909](Copied from rough draft of letter, marked Y-9)Dear Mr. President:I'll gladly join you at Seattle on your Alaska trip, unless something not now in sight jumps up to prevent. You are just the man for the wild belligerent time you are having, and be assured you will win for you have all good citizens back of you, heart and soul, just as your predecessor had in the same sort of fights. We are having a hard battle with the money-mad Hetch Hetchy dammers, but by revoking that part of the Garfield grant relating to the Hetch Hetchy valley the enemy will be confounded and routed from the Yosemite park and all good people who hear the. good tidings will rise up in glad accord and call you and good Ballinger blessed. Giving the slightest hold on Hetch Hetchy to the San Francisco schemers was the one great mistake of the Roosevelt administration.Fervently, dear President, I pray that you may have the same divine good luck in these strenuous [days] that has always been yours in the past.Ever faithfully yours,J.M.04571
