Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, Cal.

My dear Muir:

I have your very welcome letter of the 9th of March. Alas! I see no chance of my going to Alaska this year, even in such attractive company as yours.
The publishers are gratified to hear that there is some chance of our getting the Yo semite book from you, though we do not understand the reference to the petrified woods. I suppose you are writing a book on that subject first.

James has left. I felt like asking him about those letters when he was here but did not know whether you would like to have me do so or not. He was working up the Coolbrith fund and I did what little I could to advance it.

Very faithfully yours,
[illegible]

Assoeiate Editor.
