Dear brother Danl.

Today for the first time since you was home Father has been up, he sat three hours and has just gone to back to bed quite-tired. He is better than when you were here but still does not seem well at all. He would like you to write and tell him what will be best for him to eat; and he wishes me to say that he has had no passage from his bowels for five or six days.

This is a cold dreary Sunday, and it seem cozy indeed to sit by the fire and read, the house too has changed its appearance to a considerable degree and now looks very much more comfortable. Maggie has returned from the country and feels disa- pointed that she did not see you. Please, do let us hear from you. From your loving sister Joanna
