Please present my hearty [cordial] thanks to yr [your] Klub & assure the Klub that I shall gladly seize the first opportunity I have to visit your lovely islands. Your lenses must fairly revel in the glorious abundance of [ferny] leafy [picturesque] beauty for wh [which] your islands are famous. [Again, thanking you & hoping], to see any of yr [your] members who may chance to come to Cal [California.] [at] X My home [here] is near Martinez within less than 2 hrs [hours] of [SF] San Francisco & I shall be glad

[My dear Dr. Mellichamp]

I had some hopes of seeing you this fall but they’re gone & I must just work on at my notes. All the summer has gone by like a dream while I sat at my desk, except the month in the Sierra with Dr Merriam & Mr & Mrs Bayley, all naturalists & good fellows. Sargent & Canby are out Crataegus hunting again & I hope you have seen them & [in] [ ] [ ] [hope] are [ ] & all [my] family. I long to hear from you once more.

I send a mag [magazine] containing [with] some of my flr [flower] notes [that] wh [which] may interest you, if not you, then Mrs M or [at least] the children . With best wishes hoping the winter will be good to you. With kindest regards to Mrs. M & the children. I am faithfully yours. JM
