Dear Sir,

[ ] of the members S Club [Sierra Club] so far as I know is able to give instruction on scientific forestry Certainly I can not, Tho we all interested in a general way in seeing forest harvests reaped in such [a] ways that the [harvests] forests shall last forever be [perennial] in seeing forests used without being destroyed. I shall with much pleasure call the attention of the club to your kind & hopeful request.

[I sympathize] Of course you know you have my sympathy in your loneliness, [loneliness] [not]. caused [ [ ] [ ] [ ] but of loss,] why this departing from earth of your great aunt – the Pole Star & Lodestone of your life & of how many other lives [beside] What she was to me & what I thought of her I wrote & sent to Mrs. Moore for a memorial book her many friends are preparing A rare beloved soul [ ] [ ] [All] [her/his] [long] a pure blessing sent of God. Her work done [now y] gone to the Better Land
