69 Nov 11th Ride from Sheep Rock to Van [Bremers]. 1000 ft up a remarkably sandy hill. Sand upon hard lava. Whence derived. Then over a sage tableland (2 ms Then in forest of yel pine to grass lake. 5000 el) & down over rough lava to splendid [outpouring] at Milk Ranch. Lake partly filled wild geese. Butte Creek forks enters lake & returns 12th Over rough lava through yel p & cedar & few Libo. High plateaux, with washed [peebles] terminating in sharp escarpments Remarkable fissure 70 deep 2 ft wide
