firelight on "yel pine [ ] & quaintly [bedsteads ]. nibbling [trustly] of mice or rats green violets & [strawberry] [brown ] burs 5 The cause of streams dividing at foot of falls & cascades especially latter - is that the force of waters pelts [ ] boulders in middle these when floods cease the ordinary stream is compelled to flow around sides of the boulder island, so at cascades of Lit Yo [Little Yosemite]. This very much broken & diamond [ ] on surface dashes into pool where speedily calms. Where current is thin trickle it shoots under surface of pool & this cause a current to flow over towards the descending current wh [which] appears as if seeking to [reascesed] the slope the heavier portion dashing the edge of the pool into [white] churned billows
