all the passengers had to be hoisted in a closed circular wicker cage holding about a dozen. Weather continues sultry. Heavens all afire with lightning. Saw a magnificent arc of vivid chain lightning, spanning the sky from horizon to horizon. The cure of the arc almost perfect form East to West. Never before have I seen a horizontal flash of this sort.
