65 All yesterday Balfour ab [abundant], contorta along streams. Trail ran thro [through] high sandy plateau flats nearly to timber line after climbing rocky ridge over [Sketch:] Big Wing Mtn [Mountain] S [south] side looking E [east] to Whitney

66 to Rock Crk [Creek]. Thence to lofty [plateau], after climbing second high rough ridge lunched on long sandy upland flat (Killed Coyote) thence turning S.W. [southwest] a long down [dirry] down. thro [through] the Whitney Meads. [Meadows] 3 or 4 ms [miles]. Then down Whit [Whitney] Crk [Creek] & across low divide to this camp. Juniper on rocky ridge one side. red lava mass on other of crk [creek]. lava [pri] gl [glacier]
