Marvelously rich purple hills bathed in [velvety] sky, with a few cumulus piles around the horizon from hazy purple base of air. Water lovely blue green streaked on surface with pale gray. [waves] almost continuous growth of them all round the shores. Falls of [Rhum] From bottom & top of a rock 100 ft. high & [in] [rowing] over [our] boat between the two main [currents] into which the water is divided by group of picturesque islands. I have had as good a feast of crystal [roaring] [clashing] purple & gray & green 34 foam as ever in my life. At the head of rapids the current falls thus green [bosky] borders all around a basin bound by hills [bosky] yel [yellow] & brown foliage mostly [deciduous] trees. The hills made of moraine [malcot] in great part. The river seems to have [met] here a hard ridge & turned at right angles to break across [Sketch of waterfall]
