The val [valley] washed out by the present stream trends SE a mile long or more [1/8] wide Got supper early & was just going to bed when I was startled by seeing a man coming towards me across the moraine from the southward. [It] He proved to be Mr. Reid who

had seen me from the main camp & came [over] with Loomis & the cook [on their boat] to ferry me over. I had not intended making signals for them till next day but was glad to go. I had been seen also by Mr. Case & ___ who were on the W [west] mtn [mountain] above dead forest shooting ptarmigans. Had a good rest & sleep & had leisure to find out how tired I was. & [rich] in new facts
