8 Camped near it, Had hard time crossing the divide gl [glacier] camped on the gl [glacier]. [Gleened] a little fossil wood ½ a mile away near the lake [Made] [fire] on mor [moraine] [stones] for tea. Slept warm on sled. Heard roar of 4 cascades on fine shaggy green mtn [mountain] on [west] side of the lake. Saw 3 goats 1500 ft up in the steep green pasture of Heard wolves howling
