July [1] 1888 Distant mtn [mountain] blue lake blue exactly the same tone looking from head of Emerald Bay straight 2 [ length] of the Bay the [summer] yellow sky like [ ] of the desert beyond the mtn rim trees of the ter mor curved gracefully making the bay nearly a lake leaving narrow opening [sketch: landscape] The trees slender pines & firs firmly [relined] & inverted in [ ] blue of the Bay. Strip of meadow in foreground reddened with [astiluda] & the meadow edge fringed with willows. The shore washed granite sand. The one island reflected with fine effect. The bay bounded by lat mors [lateral moraines] finely [drain] 500 ft h at shoulder margins into ter mor. [terminal moraine]. The island 100 ft h ½ m [circum= circumference] a few pine x bossed with chap [chaparral] Ground of grove carpeted with [pteris ] & [rubus] nut. Magnificent pine yel or yp Libo & [p] grandis. Cliffs Yosemitic v rough & complex in sculpture.
