Martinez, Jan. 6, 1910—My dear Lummis: Turn over a new leaf. Never a word from you these days except in a bothersome bill- 'I think I paid all them Indian & Archaeological things ten or twenty years ahead when I tried to start a self preservation society. Most all my time is taken up making out money orders & standing in the mud waiting for the post man to take the money. So the thing must stop until like yourself I can get clerks to do the work & so leave me time to write a line or two on my own work. The Hetch Hetchy is another time consumer but we hope to finish the fight this winter with your help.Wishing you all good luck for the new year I am ever faithfully yoursJohn Muir
