22Martinez, Tuesday Jan. 14 [1908] Darling Helen.I got your second letter yesterday with the certificate of shares in the Greek alphabet society. I think as you already own a tenth of all the stock you had better not take any more of it at least at present. Its hardly worth the bother especially under the society's peculiar management. Your horse is still pretty ticky. I don't see why they have not got them all scraped off long ere this. He seems quite well but suffers from want of exercise. Nobody rides him. I guess the boy is afraid of him. I must try to get Hal Coleman to clean him off.We began building your fence yesterday but of course were stopped by rain. it looks very nice, 2 good days would finish the job. Be ever ever careful. I haven't seen Brown yet & fear I'll not get the ranch deeds this time. Want to start Saturday but may not if I can do anything by staying longer. With all love - hoping to see you soonJ.M.
