[letterhead]Do you expect to visit Kern River Canon [diacritic] this summer with the Sierra Club? If you do, there are two places which you as Ganger of gorges and Inspector of Gulches, should visit. One is the canon [diacritic] running parallel with Kern River and which was once, apparently, the bed of that stream. The other is the canon [diacritic] of the Little Kern, the wildest canon [diacritic] or ch[illegible] I have seen in the mountains. It is about six miles long and no one has passed through it. Both will be near the Sierra Club's permanent camp, that is, within a few miles of it.By mail to-day I send you copies of Overland Monthly with article on the Poetry of the Polynesians. I got to work on it after my return from the mountains last summer. The03799
