Frank H. Scott. Prest.Chas. F. Chichester. Treas.William W. Ellsworth, Secretary.April 28, 1894My dear Mr. Muir:-I herewith enclose an agreement in duplicate covering the publication of your book, "The Mountains of California," which is made out in our usual form. As stated in my last letter, we do not think it necessary or desirable to avail ourselves of your kind suggestion to guarantee us against loss, but as it is usual and generally most satisfactory to adjust such matters by a modification of the royalty we have made this five per cent on the first 2000 copies and ten per cent thereafter, which we trust will meet your views. If the agreement is satisfactory kindly sign and return one copy01807to us, returning the copy which bears our signature. Believe meVery trully yours[illegible]John Muir Esq.Martinez, California
