Martinez Cal.December 24, 1904.Dear Mr. Murdoch:I was glad to get your letter, telling your safe arrival at home after your long journey. Your visit here was greatly enjoyed by us all, and has left many pleasant memories. It is delightful, too, to hear direct from so many of our Scotch friends. You took pains to visit and deliver our messages. For all this we owe you many thanks.The little Lighthouse Bell Rook book I have read with much pleasure. Its notes on natural history are very interesting, and the frequent mention of the Bass Rook, Isle of May, North Berwick Law [?] and Dunbar stirred many memories of my boyhood days in the Auld lang syne.I have also enjoyed looking over the newspapers you have been kindly sending me.What a grand and interesting and useful life yours has been.
