[2]well so very fast and that you are no longer puny and pale. I know it was very naughty not to have wrote sooner but I have been going to school for a few weeks and I suppose though I had not time we have got a very good teacher after all not an Owen either so I intend to go just as steady as I can and learn as much as possible, and be as brave as possible about break- ing the [illegible] for I have got a pair of overshoes and am all rigged out for a regular glorious time [illegible] this winter for I am going to be a real good girl and be contented to go to school here instead of Portage or any where else for we have got a little more used to staying[3]up here by ourselves then we were when you went away first. We have commenced going to the [illegible] [illegible] every two weeks and would you believe it father is going to get a grand stove pipe hat from New York, dont you think you had better come home and see how he looks with it I suppose it will have the [illegible] effect of making him look quite preacherly. The apples have not lasted as long as you pro[illegible]- cied for father has just had to bring up two barrels from Portage I hope you will soon write and let us know how you get along now From your affectionate sister Joanna
