[1] Hickory Farm Dec 25th [1866]Dear brother Daniel I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year when it comes; we expected [illegible] and [illegible]arah and her folks today but it is so rainy that I am afraid that they will not come which seems very strange for christ- mas for it is always very [illegible] and it is generally good [illebible] but if it rains much more the snow will be all gone but perhaps we are having our January than a little before the time.
