[2]some weeks I am surprised that from apparently so small a shock my whole system should be so com- pletely stunned I am now free from pain and kind friends come and read for me I am supplied with abundance of of good books and all that can con[illegible] to my speed recovery and present comfort I am with a very sensible and kind family and could not be better cared for In a few weeks I will be ready to look the world and [illegible] [illegible] in the face Well as [illegible] and I mean to make this long rest profitable as possible[3]and now mother I would just say to you and to father & all my friends I [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] in full You know the worst so be patient do not fret I will write soon againMy love to all John MuirI have written at random and in the dark but hope you will be able to read my meaning
