Pasadena, Cal., April 12” 1397. Prof. John Muir, Martinez, Cal. My Dear Mr. Muir:- Your kind favor is at hand. I will not attempt to suggest any changes in the rules and regulations governing our National Parks, except in that part affecting the people who wish to visit the Park for pleasure, and those residing within the boundaries of the Park. I would strike out the clause in the present rules where it prohibits carrying fire arms, and insert the following:- All residents of and visitors in any of the National Parks or reservations of California, shall be privileged to carry fire arms, and kill game under the Game Laws of the State of California, except, however, that no person shall be permitted to kill game, or catch trout for sale. Any person violating these rules shall, upon conviction, be fined in a sum not less than $25,00, nor more than $200.00 for each offense. The tone Laws of California are ample protection to game of every description, and by prohibiting the marketing of fish and game, will result in preventing waste or slaughter; also including a penalty as highly important, as there has been no penalty prescribed heretofore. 02274
