Martinez, Mar. 24, 1900.[in margin: Gen 3174]My dear Lummis,Many thanks for you editorial in last Sunshine. The two Calaveras groves seem safe at last. Now we must fight for a decent administration of parks & reservations in general on a permanent basis. Only the merest beginning has been made. In particular the appropriations for forest guards & rangers are ridiculously inadequate. I should like very much to see you but the way seems blocked just now, with work that should have been off my hands
