F.June 18th 1889My Dear General - Mr Johnson associate Editor of the Century Magazine is in California arranging for an important series of papers for the magazine on the Pioneers of California & is very desirous to include you among the contributors. The papers are to be by representative men of reputation who participated in the events of those times & the Century wishes to reproduce the life of the old days in an authentic attractive & thourough way. your name was one of the first on Mr Johnson's list & I feel sure that you will cordially cooperate with him in this movement to glorify the pioneers. The Century has more than a million readers & this series of papers will probably revive the whole subject in a popular & interesting way, doing for early times & early timers
