ARNOLD ARBORETUM,HARVARD UNIVERSITY.Jamaica Plain Mass., October 27,1894 My dear Mr. Muir:How are you getting on, and have you finished your book? I have been back now a few days from another trip to Coloraao, Arizona, southern California, etc. You ought to see the Grand Cañon of Colorado; it is a world better, and if you ever come east again don't fail to take it in. It beats anything I have seen anu certainly you would be well repaid by a visit to it.I suppose the California Walnuts are now about ripe. If it comes in your way to gather a couple of handfuls for me I should like to have them (and as fresh as possiole) for some European correspondents who want to try this tree. Here, of course, it would not be hardy.Have you been in the mountains this summer, and have you had a good time? I shall be jlau to hear from you again.Faithfully yours,[illegible]John Muir, Esq.,Martinez, Cala.01862
