[4]A week ago I discovered a fine congregation of that Clouds Reef Primula on one of the passes of the Hoffman range [1] Yosemite Valley Oct 10th 1872.Dear Gray Your letter & notes of the 11th 13th 20th & 21st Sep' were received yesterday on my return from an excursion of two weeks in the great Tuolumne Canon & high Sierras. Cordial thanks Dr for your true & bulky kindness Your Botanical con- tributions sent in care of Mrs Carr, have also reached me. I have not forgotten your ferns etc I went twice down the canon for seeds of Torrega - once before they were fully ripe, fearing that the Indians & squirrels would eat them all.
