May 5/1958 Abadan today Last Minute Illness in Jazz Quartet A few hours before the Dave Brubeck Jazz Quartet was due to leave Tehran for Abadan, Paul Desmond, alto saxophone and Clarinet Player, was rushed to hospital in the capital. The group continued their journey to Abadan, and appeared before capacity house at the Taj Cinema last night, May 4. During the flight they revised their programme for a trio. As a rhythm trio, a group of the original Dave Brubeck octet won frame on the radio in the States. The programme given by Dave Brubeck, piano, Gene Wright, bass, and Eugene Wright, drummer, was enthusiastically enjoyed by Abadan jazzists. The trio left for Tehran today, May 5, for the last week of their tour. They have been travelling for 90 days.
