Description

Newspaper columns can take many forms, but the best are the ones where the author strongly expresses his point of view on a specific issue. This workshop will provide practical advice on how to present one’s opinion with clear, concise thoughts, from original idea to finished product. Effective use of humor and keeping a column unpredictable will also be explored. The principles and rigors of column writing can also be applied to other genres as well, especially when trying to be creative and still meet your deadlines.

Comments

Bob Dunning is an award-winning daily newspaper columnist for The Davis Enterprise. A columnist since 1970, Dunning’s “The Wary I” is currently the longest-running daily newspaper column in America. Dunning began as sports editor as a way to put himself through law school, but fell in love with journalism. His column has been honored four times as the best in California by the California Newspaper Publishers Association. Dunning – who also hosts a daily radio show – completed two books in 2014, one about the hazards and joys of running, and the other about the challenges faced by a special-needs adolescent. A father of six, Dunning lives with his wife and their children in Davis, California.
