S ward [where is] grove of shred pine at south end of wh is [fine] garden of gentians from when mor [moraine] is well formed at alt [altitude] of 7600 the slope S ward is 17° a few hund[hundred] yds [yards] lower it is 14 1/2° for 20 yds [yards] Mor[moraine] is ridged [sketch: so - gap] & contains porphyry from towards Cath [Cathedral] Pk [Peak] Alt [altitude] 7000 Slope 25° dir [direction] of W10S Alt [altitude] 6720 " [slope] 23° [w/] mor [moraine] extending from [1st] high rock on N side Little yo sem [Yosemite] |o| the two above [ ] slopes the slope to may [pleas] range as low as 15° Alt [altitude] Bot [bottom] Yo Sem (Lit) [Little Yosemite] 6300 above 2nd mor [moraine] dam Slope of wall Lit [little] to left - Starr King in front plateau [23 avg] (Avalanches) Lit Yosemite Val July 27/73 [1873] 6 Alt bot Lower end 6270 Upper - 6300 Extending from of hard rock on [it] side near mouth of val [valley] proper is a well marked moraine a few feet in height 10 or 12 steep on lower side curving with lower end to S in gen direction of S 25E? 350 or 400 yds higher is another mor wall defined curving from another (the next) rock on N side in gen dir of S15W also steeper on lower side the river passes both of these on S end between them the val [valley] is flat & meadowy but dry. A [rack] growth among the [P can] of Columbines larkspurs lupines [Castileans] & golden rods with [ ] waving & nodding grasses a couple of small steams come in from the mtn side [mountainside] on it & creep along the side of the meadows on whose bank are mors [moraines] & matted clover etc. the mors [moraines] themselves are timbered with picea grandis & yel [yellow] & sage pine & flrd with painted caps & eonotheras [oenotheras] & [eriogonums] all the rest of the bottom is flat the S side being meadow to a greater or lesser extent which
