At home all day reading Harnsworth History of South America, etc., etc. Making lists of books for the many friends I’ve found here at Manoas, etc. etc. September 24. Fine ride in auto with Mr. Aimer three hours. Along streets lined with palms. Very striking. Walk in fine shady park and Botanical Gardens. September 25. Sao Paulo arrived last evening. Leaves tomorrow morning at eight, for Rio. Go down town with Mr. Aimer, get ticket, 291 milreis. Wrote letters. Returned to Duff home for luncheon, packed, and bade a most grateful goodbye to Mr. Duff and Mr. Cole who have been incredibly kind to me. Never left home with greater regret and obligation. Went on board at half past five with Mr. Aimer, who looked after everything. September 26. Left Para at 8:30. Mr. Aimer came down to see me off. Vast send-off to a Senator. Brass
