lovely blue. Found trumpet shaped like flr [flower]. Hells half acre lovely [irised] vapor in pool of exquisite beauty of ornament. Huge geyser seemed to have blown up the old deposits making huge raw crater discharge great quantity of water.

Strange yel [yellow] stream channel 3 ft wide 6 in deep raised edge yellow [ ] in [bottom] [grass] color water pure.

Mudpools long. cooking black broth heaving in [cavern] with awful gasping belching yet frls [flowers] to edge.

The cañon. Water eroded colors bright, neutral tints. pure white silica & [ ] fantastic pillars & columns not carved but licked wasted frosted [who] form in connection with structure.

Weird wild crumbling yet forming [posing] from form to form

A place to see & flee from. Eagle nest hawks on pillars.

From Livingstone [down/dam] Yellowstone 2 to 3 [ ] [ ] grassy willowy flrs [flowers]

Next morning. fine trees on thru Dakota badlands strange fantastic colors & form playhouse in size. [rain/raw] downwashing flowing [ ] streams muddy. farther on grassy. coalseams [coal seams] burning.

Wheat fields good. [raw] villages [raw] farmsteads grass green. Some with a large wealthy population

The Missouri at Mandan navigable 1200 mi [miles] above muddy sandy.

Mississippi clear hemlock & small oak green grass
