The whole landscape far & near [breathing] profoundly calm & peace & glowing like a [ ] with all embracing peace & joy & benevolence with the deepest repose & joy the venturesome mtneer [mountaineer] in the heart of the [high] alpine solitude watches [ ] the slightest changes knows that winter is nigh in the weather, the tones of the wind, the color of the sky above, the deep canons & the [finest] cloud [fileres] streaming like combed [silk drawn out] above the summit peaks holding [himself] ready to turn & flee to the lower bread valleys ere his retreat is cut off by [ ] blinding snowstorms
