[2]Father reported himself very sick a month ago & urged Joanna to come to him. She went (taking her [intended’?] with her) to whom she is engaged to be married Sep 7th Mr Walter Brown of Phillips Wis, don’t tell her I wrote this) They found him feeble unable to walk without crutches, but he has since regained about his usual health, they done all in their power to get him to come home but as yet he says “the Lord has not ordered him to return to Portage yet” but we expect Joanna will make out to bring him with her in August. Jno Reid & family will go to [Crete?] Neb is Sep if all is well. he owns a ½ interest in 200 cows near there & intends to take a ½ interest in a ‘meat marke also [3]Dan has for two years been entirely over worked in Racine & his health threatened, but also has had great trouble in collecting on [a/c?] of hard times s[illegible] of illegible] He reports himself nicely located on 18th & K Sts Lincoln Neb. where he will do Office business only & have office hours & also oversee his larger stock farm 14 miles distant his farm is larger but his flocks are very small yet. but has made a start. I don’t know as I suffer from “inflamatory Neb” but I ought to [illegible] from inflammatory some place as Portage is certainly becoming worse for business. business has gone hard for a few years lately they have promised to do better but good times still linger in the future for the last 10 Days we have been surrounded by water so that not a single customer to come from the coutry
