[4]God bless you. Ever Your devoted fatherJohn Muir[1]Para, Brazil, Sep 18, 1911Darling Helen,I fondly hope you & Buel & the precious son are well safely through the summer in the pine woods of the mountains.I'm well & have enjoyed a glorious trip of more than a thousand miles up the great river enriched with the spoils of the greatest of all the world's forests. Had far more telling views of the trees than I ever hoped for. The river is everywhere immensely wide. yet for hundreds of miles the steamer ran so close to banks I could almost touch the outreaching branches. I was a week at Manaus on the Rio Negro, wandered in the wonderful woods, got acquainted with the best citizens & had a good telling time every way
