[2]little Gracie spent a week in Portage visiting all round. I think Davids health is unusually good this summer. about two weeks ago I had a letter from John he is still in Oakland writing but intends spending two months this fall about the base of the Sierras — We were surprised to see Mary walk in on Saturday very unexpectedly from Madison and she has returned again this morning she is teaching a class of young ladies oil painting – she is in good health and spirits – I hope her expectation will be realized, Anna is still teaching a very pleasant school. Joanna and I are still alone her health is not good at all [3]and she thinks her eyes do not improve any I should like to know what can be done for her. I have been quite sick for two weeks but have nearly recovered my usual health Three weeks ago I had a letter from your father he is still very busy making additions to his house and painting it also distributing tracts and he has sent to Bristol for a new supply. We are still anticipat- ing a visit from you this fall with much pleasure cannot Emma and the baby accompany you. affectionately your Mother ———
