In the 1930s, Pacific worked with local community members to create Stockton Junior College, and until the mid-1950s, all freshmen and sophomores at Pacific were technically students at Stockton College. The two schools shared the same campus until the junior college split off in 1951. Most of the campus from Bernerd College southward was SJC, and it provided opportunities for thousands of students in the area. In the mid-1970s Stockton Junior College moved about a mile up Pacific Avenue and renamed itself San Joaquin Delta College.
