During winter term 1981, the University of the Pacific Music Conservatory played stand-in for an eastern Ivy League college in George Lucas’ film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Only a short clip of the Conservatory appears in the movie but it was updated and reused in The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Faye Spanos Concert Hall was renovated and rededicated with its current name in 1987. Updates included replacing wooden seats with cushioned ones, redesigning the lobby, enlarging the bathrooms, installing central air and heat, and building an ornate glass-domed entry and box office. The renovations were made possible by funding from Faye's husband, local businessman Alex Spanos, and an anonymous donor.
