Introduction/Context/Diagnosis

Summary of Project : Since 1972, the Academy of General Dentistry has aimed to improve the oral health of the public and to support the efforts of dental practitioners. Our UOP student AGD Chapter is a division of this foundation, and we strive to uphold this mission for all of our student members. Over the past year, we have encouraged our peers to become active members of their community by attending continuing education courses held by our chapter, AGD Foundation, CDA conferences, and CDE symposiums hosted by University of the Pacific. These courses were not all originally made accessible to dental students; however through the endeavors of the AGD student chapter, our students have been engaging in these advanced seminars and collaborating with leaders in dentistry. Significance: Our chapter promotes member involvement in continuing education courses to enhance skills, improve patient care, and enrich knowledge. Students network with leaders that strive for excellence and growth while having a head start at earning 50 units toward the Fellowship Award. The Fellowship Award is a professional distinction for general dentists, achieved by earning 500 CE units and passing the AGD examination. Upon achievement, dentists may then pursue their Mastership Award, which represents the highest level of dedication for members within the AGD. Through continuing education courses, our students are able to expand their knowledge, build a community with new mentors, network with other dental students, and become established within their future career goals. Acknowledgements: We extend our gratitude to the National AGD Foundation and PACE for supporting our student chapter. Special thanks to Dr. Darrell Chun, Cori Lee, Benjamin Chew, Terri Iwamoto-Wong, Lindsey Baris, and our speakers for their generosity and leadership. Lastly, we would like to honor our past advisor, Dr. Alan Budenz. Your guidance and support were truly immeasurable and your presence will be greatly missed.
